He died of Brights Desease - a Chronic desease of the Kidneys He was a bachelor before marrying Emily (church banns ref holy trinity). Emily: died on one of her husbands treks into the hinterland while trading. She was buried in the namaqualand area.

As a child he treked with his father (James Adolphus Fish) into the hinterland, he saw a falling star in the namaqualand area fall into a field and cause a large crater and set the field alight. This could be in German South West Africa when he was about 9 yrs old. James was a recluse and very strict with the kids. He was a very hard man, difficult to get on with. Farm land now owned by Plessey. Their buildings now occupy this land. They also stayed in heathfield in a house called "sweethome" that had 2 large palm trees in the garden.
